Classified Counts

Feature overview

Classified Counts data represents the number of road users travelling along a road space. Road users are counted as they cross a virtual line (=countline) setup within a sensor’s field of view.

• VivaCity sensors can distinguish between nine road user classes, including Pedestrian, Cyclist, E-scooter, Motorbike, Car, Taxi, LGV, Bus, OGV 1, OGV 2 (see Road user classes).

• Sensors can detect objects across multiple virtual countlines.

• Classified Counts can be accessed in different time buckets ranging from 5 minutes to 24 hours.

• Counts can be filtered by direction: either ‘in’ (towards the lens, referred to as ‘clockwise’ in the API) or ‘out’ (away from the lens, referred to as ‘anticlockwise’).

You can navigate to the analysis pages via ‘Network Overview’ (see below) or through ‘Analysis’.

Network Overview

View Classified Counts preview and compare against Typical Total

Navigate to ‘Network Overview’ and select ‘Classified Counts’ from the features dropdown. Once you selected a sensor or countline, you’ll see a preview of Classified Counts for that location.

By default, it will display Counts for today in 3-hour buckets and a comparison against Typical Totals (=average volumes for the same weekday over the past three weeks). You can filter for direction in the preview window or for classes in the bar above the map view.

Click ‘View details’, ‘Trend Analysis’ or ‘Intervention Analysis’ to explore the data further.

Analysis: Classified Counts

Explore Classified Counts for a single day and compare against Typical Total

You can navigate to the page in two ways:

1. ‘Network Overview’ > Select feature Classified Counts > Click ‘View Details’ in preview

2. ‘Analysis’ > Click ‘Launch’ on ‘Classified Counts’

The analysis page shows multiple graphs, aggregated per sensor and for each countline.

• Change date (single day only)

• Change time bucket, direction or classes

• Stack counts and toggle on/off Typical Totals

You can use the dropdown on the top right to change between different analysis pages and see data for other features on your sensor.

View Classified Counts for up to a year and explore typical day and week patterns. Supports countline groups.

Navigate to ‘Analysis’ > ‘Trend Analysis’ and select your assets. By default, you will see a summary for the last 28 days. You can change the following inputs:

• Date Range: Start and end dates (max = 1 year)

• Days of the week: Filter for weekdays

• Start and end time: Filter for time of day (hour)

• Classes: Filter for classes (supports expand classes, see Road user classes)

• Direction: Select direction for Sensor / Lens / Countline (In/Out)

Once you made a change, you’ll need to click ‘Update’ to query the new data.

• Typical week: Average counts by day of the week

• Typical day: Average hourly counts by day of the week

Analysis: Intervention Analysis

Compare Classified Counts between two date periods of up to a year and explore % changes for day and week patterns. Supports countline groups.

Navigate to ‘Analysis’ > ‘Intervention Analysis’ and select your assets. By default, you will see a summary for the last 28 days against the previous 28 days. You can change the following inputs:

• Before and after date range: Start and end dates (max = 1 year)

• Days of the week: Filter for weekdays

• Start and end time: Filter for time of day (hour)

• Classes: Filter for classes (supports expand classes, see Road user classes)

• Direction: Select direction for Sensor / Lens / Countline (In/Out)

• Time bucket: Switch between 1 hour or 1 day to get hourly or weekday summaries

Once you made a change, you’ll need to click ‘Update’ to query the new data.

• Average daily counts: Average counts before and after by class

• Average counts: Average hourly or weekday counts before and after (depends on time bucket)

• Percentage change in average counts: Average hourly or weekday change for before and after (depends on time bucket)

Raw data

You can download aggregated Classified Counts data for multiple countlines via the dashboard. Navigate to ‘Download' and select ‘Classified Counts’ from the Features dropdown.

Make you selection and click ‘Download’.

• Date period: Length depends on level of granularity of time bucket

• Countlines: Select from dropdown, search, or include all countlines. You can also select from the map

• Classes: Filter or select all

Other toggles

• Include countline ID in download

• Aggregate countline directions

• Include Data Availability in download. This will give you an additional column in the csv file showing the Percentage Data availability for the time bucket you selected

From graph panels

On pages using our updated graphing library, you can download the data behind each graph by clicking on the menu icon in top right corner of each chart. You can also download the graph as an image.

Pages with our old graphing library will have clear ‘Download’ buttons.
